About Our Church

This page is designed to introduce you to our church.  We hope that what you see and read here will be what you experience when you become involved at Surgoinsville First United Methodist Church.

Morning Worship

Sunday worship begins at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary. We are led in music by our choir and instrumentalists. Together we sing hymns and choruses, some old and some new. Each week our pastor leads us in prayer and preaches on a selected passage from the Bible. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

Evening Worship

Our evening service of worship begins Sunday at 6:00 PM in the sanctuary. This is casual, shorter time of singing, praying, and learning. The pastor offers a teaching sermon. Come ready to sing some of the great hymns of the church and to open the Bible and explore God’s Word.

Sunday School

Sunday school for all ages begins at 10:00 AM every Sunday.

Children

Children are especially welcome at First United Methodist Church. In addition to Sunday school for kids, we also have various activities and learning opportunities throughout the year for them. Three Sundays a month in our morning worship service the children are invited forward for a special children’s time. This is a brief lesson intentionally geared for young listeners.

Youth

Students grades 6-12 are invited to our United Methodist Youth Fellowship on Sunday nights at 6:00 PM. This time of fellowship often includes snacks and a time of devotion.  In January our youth attend Resurrection, a large gathering of nearly 12,000 youth in Gatlinburg, TN.

Service

We believe that following Jesus means serving others. And we are always looking for ways to neighbors to those in need. We participate in a variety of ways in missions reaching out to people in our county as well as around the globe. This includes (but is not limited to) taking meals to homebound members of the community, collecting items for local service agencies as well as for overseas missions, mission trips, and special offerings for missions.
